The Accessories for a Perfect BBQ Pizza
Pizza Stone
You don’t need a pizza oven to cook the perfect pizza – as long as you have a pizza stone, then the barbecue makes for the next best thing.
Pizza stones are designed to evenly distribute heat from the grill of your barbecue so that your pizza base cooks evenly, rather than running the risk of it burning. They also offer the added benefit of a non-stick design, making it easier to transfer your pizza on and off the stone.
Pizza Paddle
A pizza paddle is a nifty accessory that’s used for transferring your uncooked pizza to and from the barbecue before and after cooking. They have a wide base, allowing them to more easily slide your dough onto the pizza stone and scoop it up again once it’s cooked, without worries of it falling off.
Pizza Cutter
You can’t cut a pizza without a trusty pizza cutter! Well… you can, but a pizza cutter certainly does it best. Stainless steel pizza cutters are ideal for cutting through crispy crust and melty cheese to create the perfect slices.
Perfecting Your Pizza Skills
Preheating Your Grill
When cooking pizzas on a barbecue, it’s best to preheat your grill whilst you’re creating your masterpieces. Start by placing your pizza stone on the grill whilst it’s still cold, then turn on the heat to let it evenly heat up the stone.
In the meantime, you can knead your dough and prepare your pizza bases and toppings.
Using Your Pizza Paddle
Once you’ve flattened and stretched out your dough to create a pizza base, sprinkle some semolina onto your pizza paddle (this helps to ensure that the dough doesn’t stick – making it easier to slide on and off) and scoop up your pizza base.
We recommend adding your toppings at this point! Whether you’re a simple cheese kind of person or like to go all out – add all the toppings that your heart desires (just remember to leave about half an inch around the edge for the crust!).
Cooking the Pizza
Once all your toppings are on, then it’s finally time to cook your pizza. Your pizza stone should be sufficiently preheated at this point, so simply slide your uncooked pizza onto the stone, close the barbecue lid and cook your pizza for around three to five minutes – the cooking time may vary depending on your type of barbecue and the amount of toppings you’ve used.
Et voila! You now have the perfectly cooked, fresh homemade pizza, straight as if it were from the piazzas of Italia itself.
