Five top tips for throwing the perfect pizza party
Almost everyone loves pizza. So if you have a pizza oven, a pizza party is one of the best social events you can host as it works for a wide range of ages and tastes. The great thing about a pizza party is that it works at any time of the year – you can shelter inside during the winter months with a gas pizza oven or enjoy the garden with an outdoor pizza oven during the summer. The key to throwing the perfect pizza party is preparation so when the oven is hot and crowds are hungry you can deliver delicious pizza, pronto! Below are some tips to help you throw the perfect pizza party.
1. Make the dough at least a day beforehand
The pizza dough is undoubtedly the most challenging part of preparing for your pizza party. Get it wrong and you’re more likely to have a crusty pizza pie coming out of the pizza oven than a crisp pizza base. Find a good dough recipe and get it made the day before. Not only does this mean that your dough has time to ferment and develop a deeper flavour but it also means that you have less preparation on the day of the party.
2. Prepare your toppings in advance
On the day of your pizza party you should prepare your toppings. You will be making pizzas quickly, and there will probably be a lot of people involved, so you will need to be ready! Chop, measure and mix together a range of different ingredients such as pepperoni, mushrooms, peppers, grated mozzarella and anything else that you or your guests might want to go in the pizza oven.
3. Don’t overload the base
A common mistake made at pizza parties is to overload the pizza base. Everyone gets over excited! However an overloaded pizza may not cook properly or will tear when it is being transferred in and out of the pizza oven. Try to show restraint at the topping stage.
4. Use multiple baking trays or pizza stones
Once the pizza oven gets going you will want to move quickly, especially if you are using a wood fire outdoor pizza oven. It’s best to have more than one tray or pizza stone to use so that when you take one pizza out of the pizza oven, you have the next one loaded and ready to go.
5. Think about what you will serve with the pizza
Finally you should consider what you will serve with your pizza. Some good options are salads or steamed greens but many chips are also a big crowd pleasing option.
